This is somewhat off topic even for me but it's for a good cause and I have a fair amount of traffic from the design perspective so I figured you might be interested in this.
THE CHALLENGE:
If you can create the best ad (according the the specs, available in the PDF on Seth Godin's site) Seth will run your ad and promote you as the designer.
He will also point to three runners-up from his (Seth Godin's) blog and will encourage his co-authors to do so as well.
SO, you do an ad on spec, and if it's great, you get publicity far and wide, leading, perhaps to not just good feelings around holiday time but plenty of new business, and maybe a shot at being on Oprah, if that's your business. Amateurs are welcome to apply.
The objectives:
1. To generate clickthrough to the Amazon page for the Big Moo
2. To generate sales of the book at that page.
3. There is no number 3.
The deadline for the contest is a week from today, so if you're going to do it, do it right now so you can submit your entry on time. (12/12 at noon EST. Send a link to your hosted ad to: seth@sethgodin.com)
Every penny they earn goes to charity. You get all the kudos. Microsoft does the right thing. They sell a lot of books. Happy holidays! And thanks.
About the book:
The Big Moo is a book written by 33 people, with 100% of the royalties going to charity. Learn more about the book The Big Moo.
This is a high-profile competition that WILL generate mass exposure for the winner. Seth Godin you might remember from books like "The Purple Cow".
Microsoft has even generously donated an ad on MSN.com for the event. Being one of the 5 most visited websites on the internet that's quite an accomplishment.
If you are interested in trying your hand at this competition head on over the Seth Godin's Blog, read the PDF Spec and get started! - Amateurs welcome - Good Luck!

Instead of promoting this contest, you shoule be warning against it. Contests and spec work devalue the advertising/design profession. A lot of people are going to waste their time with this just to let Seth get some free design work.
Well, while everyone is entitled to an opinion I think you might want to do a little research on who Seth Godin is, what the contest is about, and just how much exposure the winner would actually get. His statistics are no doubt nothing short of incredible.
The bottom line in my personal opinion is this;
I'm fairly certain if he just asked he would have dozens of entires tossed at him for nothing regardless. Not to mention if he wanted to pay someone to do it I'm fairly confident he could afford it.
ALL proceeds go to charity (EVERY PENNY).
So basically someone gets a shot at massive exposure and they get to do a little charity work.
